Job Description

Under general supervision of the Director of Admissions, this position performs all duties associated with the processing of applications to include data entry, counseling and advising prospective students as well as coordinating duties associated with Admissions. This position provides excellent internal and external customer service as related to the admissions process. Employee will be supervised but will need to exercise independent judgment and discretion. Position reports directly to the Associate Director of Admissions.

Job Duties

Counsels and advises applicants, prospects, and MUSC faculty regarding admission requirements, course prerequisites, transfer equivalences, and institutional policies related to the assigned academic programs. (30%)

Responsible for batch imports of data (test scores, applications, references, etc.) into the student information system. Works with OCIO to develop technical requirements for imports to insure reliability. Communicates the receipt of imports to internal and external customers and ensures that deadlines are met. Reconciles imports with existing data, using independent judgment to prevent duplicates and retain the most relevant information. Prepares and distributes batch reports. - (20%)

Evaluates and processes applications and supporting materials for the assigned academic programs. By means of complex index formulas which take into consideration diversity criteria, special program considerations, as well as residency criteria, determines which applicants are eligible for interviews or committee review. - (15%)

Performs course-by-course transcript evaluations to establish prerequisite completion by applicants and to allow calculation of various GPAs. Researches course descriptions from other institutions to determine eligibility for prerequisite classification. - (15%)

Assists in the design, development, and implementation of various information systems (i.e. data entry, electronic application, applicant database interface, database reports) used for applicants to the assigned academic programs. Recommends changes in policies and procedures for improved efficiency. - (10%)

Provides guidance to faculty admission committee members during regularly scheduled committee meetings. Prior to each meeting, performs independent analyses of computer reports that show applicant eligibility profiles to determine inaccuracies. Takes steps to correct any problem area. - (5%)

Participates in general OEM functions, including but not limited to: collaboration between teams, Commencement preparation and execution, special workshops, front desk coverage and any other situational duties as assigned. Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities for professional development. - (5%)

MUSC Minimum Training And Experience Requirements

A bachelor's degree and one year experience in student services programs.
