Summary/Objective

Under the general direction of the Medical Record Director and the Administrative Director of Women's Services, the Birth Certificate Registrar is responsible for collecting the necessary data elements for the completion of the birth certificate as required by state law. Responsibilities include working with the parents to gather data that is required for the Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP),

Essential Job Duties

  • Completes any certification program and continuing education that may be required by state law to accurately perform birth certificate registration and assessment of paternity while working under the guidelines and process as defined by the state.
  • Interacts with the parents to collect and document the birth information, delivering the appropriate forms to them and providing guidance in the completion of the forms to be file to Texas Department of State Health Services, Vital Statistics Unit
  • Provide parents with all legally-required information about paternity establishment and child support services. Ensures Acknowledge of Paternity is filed completely and within 5 days following the birth if the mother is not married
  • Accurately files birth information in a timely manner as required by state law, maintaining back-up documentation according to facilities retention schedule.
  • Reviews patient medical records and other resources, as needed, to obtain required birth information and maintains confidentiality with all PHI and HIPAA related information.
  • Meets with auditors, according to state regulations, who visit the facility on a regular basis to monitor/audit the birth certificate and AOP process, providing reports and data to them as needed.

Required Education And Experience

High School Graduate or Equivalent

No Experience Required.

Required License/Certifications

AOP Certification (obtained after hired)
