Job Summary
The Chassis Design Team is seeking a hands-on Tech Lead Mechanical Engineer (Principal level) to spearhead the design and development of next-generation surgical tables and patient positioning systems. This role will drive complex mechanical design projects, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
The Tech Lead will provide technical leadership, oversee system architecture, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with medi cal device regulations. Additionally, this role will work closely with cross-functional teams—including R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing—to translate clinical requirements into robust, manufacturable products.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in mechanical design, deep expertise in materials and manufacturing processes, and a proven track record of delivering Class I and II medical devices—including full product lifecycle management, design history documentation, and rigorous testing.

Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with management to align project goals, allocate resources effectively, and communicate technical progress clearly.
- Deliver high-quality, hands-on designs of metal, plastic, and carbon composite patient support structures, as well as user-actuated mechanisms and electro-mechanical drive trains, ensuring superior performance, safety, and manufacturability.
- Provide technical leadership by coordinating and mentoring small groups of engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Lead design reviews, establish best practices, and drive team accountability to ensure project milestones are met.
- Apply sound engineering principles to identify, define, and solve complex problems by collecting data, analyzing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Continuously contribute to product enhancements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional development teams to design, develop, and test products that meet system requirements.
- Maintain close collaboration with Manufacturing and Marketing teams to address product needs and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or PhD preferred) with 8-12 years of hands-on design experience, emphasizing product development.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Proven track record of designing and integrating mechanisms and electromechanical systems (including cams, linkages, bearings, motor selection, couplings, gearboxes, sensor integration, and electronics packaging) into successful products.
- Strong experience in analyzing kinematics, statics, and dynamic properties of complex serial-linked structures (such as robotic manipulators) through both hand calculations and software tools like MATLAB, Simulink, and Adams.
- Expertise in optimizing structural designs using finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
- Data-driven problem-solving approach with the ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Knowledge of user interface design and ergonomics.
- Familiarity with product lifecycles, preferably in medical devices.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, preferably SAP.
- Understanding of Requirements Management & Traceability Software, preferably Jama.
- Familiarity with Agile Project Management methodologies.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
