We are seeking a motivated and talented National Health and Safety Leader who will collaborate closely with the operational leadership team to align workforce health and safety strategies, promote wellness across the enterprise, align policy and procedures with applicable regulations, and monitor metrics to identify opportunities in mitigating risk. The National Health and Safety Leader will be instrumental in continuing to build our health and safety programs in our people-focused culture through partnership and collaboration with our operations and shared services teams.
This hybrid position can be located anywhere in the U.S. where Verdantas has an office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of Area Health & Safety Professionals and supporting administrative staff.
- Lead Verdantas’ health and safety culture by example.
- Manage employee safety training.
- Develop, maintain, evaluate and improve safety programs to address hazards related to activities conducted by Verdantas employees.
- Ensure effective project-specific health and safety plans are in place for all field projects.
- Ensure work-related incidents and injuries are pro-actively managed to minimize escalation of severity for the employee and impact to the company. Lead investigation of incidents and develop/implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Regularly communicate with all employees regarding safety-related topics via companywide safety messages, companywide meetings, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintaining radioactive materials licenses with U.S. NRC, and current Agreement States (CA, OH, PA, MD, NJ, NH) for the use of nuclear densitometer gauges. This includes management of employee training, compliance with regulatory requirements for operating, transporting, storing, and maintaining gauges and safety.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in health & safety leadership within the engineering/environmental consulting and/or construction industry, CSP certification required, CIH a plus.
- Minimum of BS. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or Occupational Health & Safety.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations (construction, general industry, and HAZWOPER).
- Radioactive materials license management experience (through U.S. NRC and/or Agreement State(s).
- Strong understanding/experience with MSHA regulations.
- Detailed knowledge of safety compliance platforms (i.e. ISNetworld, Avetta and/or Veriforce).
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential to build relationships and trust at all levels from senior management to entry-level employees, as well as experience presenting to large groups in person and remotely.
