Purpose & Scope

The Senior Director Epic Clinical Applications is responsible for the successful support and maintenance of enterprise-wide clinical systems. The Senior Director is responsible for the implementation and design of Enterprise Solutions for Workflows at VHC Health. This includes Clinical Applications, Departmental Applications, Ambulatory Applications, and ensuring associated training. The Senior Director reports directly to the CIO and directs the work of the project leadership and staff in their respective applications/departments. The Senior Director maintains the scope and work plan and ensures that all assigned milestones and deliverables are on time and budget. The Senior Director is tasked with the internal communication of project strategies, high level deliverables, plans, and schedules. Ensures all outcomes and deliverables meet organizational goals, objectives and quality standards. This position has the opportunity to work with Physician Leadership, Nursing Leadership, and other clinical departments to create a vision for clinical systems improvement, work with the IS Division to define a strategy for delivery, develop action plans, and follow through with execution, delivering high value clinical solutions throughout the organization.

As a resource, the Senior Director will provide leadership in the field, recruit and hire their own clinical, nursing, medical, technical, and educational staff, and work closely with the CIO, CMIO, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Associate Vice Presidents (AVP’s), Patient Care Directors, and Ambulatory Clinic Directors at VHC Health. The Senior Director develops and oversees implementation and ongoing maintenance of clinical applications (including EPIC), resolving issues in a timely fashion and ensuring the technology and educational support meets clinical and business requirements. The Director is also responsible for

  • Implementing appropriate service delivery models for core application functions where the IS organization is a trusted adviser in defining, delivering, and improving services for the enterprise and its customers.
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of standards and policies for evaluation, implementation, development and management across VHC Health and associated ambulatory practices.
  • Working with the CIO to develop budgets and the expenditures for information services related to applications. Duties include operating and capital budget development in partnership with other IS leaders and customers.
  • Escalating critical issues, problems or delays in production, projects or any other issues that have an impact on the customer.
  • Articulating the vision for clinical workflow to ensure success in implementing technology that benefits patient care.
  • Partnering with Information Technology, nursing, medical and operational leaders to define and lead informatics initiatives in inpatient and outpatient clinical areas.
  • Take the lead for the IT department in assessing new technological opportunities that impact/improve care delivery, enhance patient safety and workflow efficiency.


The Senior Director will report to the CIO and be a member of the executive leadership team maintaining an electronic health record across VHC Health and associated clinics. In particular, this position will lead project governance and executive teams and work closely with Standing Teams, Committees, and Councils of the various clinical departments and physicians to set the clinical system vision and priorities for clinical process redesign and technology implementation, a key focus being continued clinical performance improvement utilizing Clinical Applications with an emphasis on maximizing EPIC. The Senior Director will continue to manage the ongoing EPIC implementation and support as well as other clinical applications. The Senior Director will work with Physicians and Nursing leadership to create a vision for the use of technology to improve care delivery, work with the IS Division to define a strategy for optimizing, develop action plans, and follow through with execution, delivering high value clinical solutions throughout the organization. Key responsibilities include delivering improvements in organizational performance through enhancements to clinical processes and supporting technologies. This will be accomplished through working closely with the clinical leadership team to define needs and establish priorities, then developing action plans, taking ownership, and following through with execution, in coordination with the IS Division.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.

Master's in a related field is preferred.

Experience

Ten years' experience or more in clinical healthcare systems is preferred.

Five Years' Experience In Clinical Informatics Is Required.

Five years' supervisory experience is required.

Experience With Epic Applications Is Required.

Certification/Licensure

PMP is preferred

CPHIMS is preferred

Nursing Informatics Certification is preferred
