Compensation: Starting rate $18.50 per hour.

As a billing assistant, you’ll play an important role in the success of the organization by using your attention to detail, resiliency, communication and collaboration skills.
About The Role
You’ll apply your kindness and customer service skills as you assist patients. Responsibilities include:
- Assists patients in finding resolutions to billing problems either in-person or via incoming phone calls
- Assists patients with sliding fee applications and payment plans on balances
- Contacts insurance companies to investigate denied and aging insurance claims
- Identifies and resolves billing errors
- Accesses insurance portals to check eligibility, claims status and file appeals
- Works within the billing system to understand denials and recognize denials codes to work the claim completely to have it resubmitted for payment
- Uses knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, eligibility and ability to differentiate between plans
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations and other medical billing compliance standards

Education And Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Able to read, write and speak the English language. A second language of Spanish preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy

- Commitment to adhere to standard operating procedures and policies of Neighborhood Health Center as well as federal, state and local regulations
- One year prior medical billing experience and insurance verification preferred
