Lead and direct the North plant engineering team to ensure key improvement projects related to the optimization of manufacturing processes are identified, proposed, and completed

Help drive the company’s “Lean” culture and provide engineering support for all company functions

Responsibilities

  • Identify best practices and direct/monitor their implementation
  • Recommend process improvements in support of quality, cost, and safety progress
  • Direct/support/monitor product consolidation projects
  • Provide support in the areas of tooling and fixturing and production capacity evaluation
  • Support supplier evaluations in technical capability, supplier’s capability to justify cost, and meet delivery expectations
  • Evaluate results of suppliers tooling samples, preproduction, and production runs for compliance to expectations
  • Perform/direct testing and analysis of material and processes used in production
  • Provide guidance and assistance to product development in the design and manufacturing of new instruments
  • Manage capital projects
  • Manage/supervise/evaluate the engineering staff
  • Identify individual training/education needs of the engineering group. Develop/implement plans to satisfy those needs
  • Communicate extensively with people internal and external to the organization using oral, written, and graphic methods as required
  • Provide input for the development of departmental budget
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial discipline or equivalent background and experience
  • Ten years or more of experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment with supervisory responsibility
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, CAD, CNC, and developing BOMs and routings
  • Experienced and knowledgeable on a variety of metal manufacturing techniques
  • Proficiency in computer systems – MS Office, Solidworks
  • Excellent communicator, both spoken and written
  • Good listener
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems
  • Proven organizational and leadership skills
  • Manage individual development by providing coaching, feedback, and reinforcement

  • Requires repetitive upper body movement – keyboarding and monitor use
