Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full-time General Accounting Supervisor at our Salina, KS location.

Hybrid options available.

Summary

The General Accounting Supervisor will oversee accounting related to business activities including but not limited to prepaid expenses, fixed assets, lease, debt, other liabilities, and equity accounting, as well as banking accounting for investments, customer loans, deposits, and related fee accounting. The position will assist with further developing internal controls around processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creating staff work assignments, tracking staff productivity, ensuring coverage and adjusting assignments as needed.
  • Training and developing accounting analysts.
  • Reviewing work of accounting analysts and monitoring employee performance.
  • Ensuring proper reason, coding and/or documentation exists prior to approving transactions and expenses.
  • Ensure procedures for key processes & controls are created, documented, followed and updated as needed.
  • Reviewing procedures and processes systemically for potential improvement opportunities.
  • Provide functional support to the Assistant Controller, Controller, and CAO as requested.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of internal and external customer and company information.
  • Maintaining effective business relationships both inside and outside of the bank, including co-workers, customers, vendors, and others.
  • Perform the job in accordance with applicable industry laws and regulations as well as the policies and procedures established by the company.
  • Responsible for upholding Fair and Responsible Banking practices and Code of Ethics and Conduct guidelines.
  • Understand and participate in the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

  • Qualified candidates should have previous banking, accounting or auditing experience and understanding.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot is essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft office, including advanced experience with Excel required
  • Tactful communication skills are required.
  • Previous supervisor experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or five years of experience in Accounting or Auditing areas required.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with and maintaining confidential information.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work with, or independent of, others.
  • Must be flexible in accepting tasks, take ownership of assigned duties, and catch on to new concepts quickly.
  • Must be able to research issues or processes independently and provide recommended solutions or enhancements.
  • 40 WPM typing and 10-key by touch.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours during peak workload periods.
