Position Overview

The Staff Accountant at Kristen Distributing Company plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and supporting overall accounting operations. This role involves daily transaction reporting, month-end close activities, compliance monitoring, and assisting in financial reporting. The Staff Accountant contributes to the efficiency and reliability of our financial systems, promoting sound business decisions and accountability across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Your essential duties will include:

  • Daily Transactions: Record daily financial activity, including sales, cash deposits, inventory movement, and other journal entries.
  • Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, ensure timely payments, manage weekly check runs, and maintain W-9 and 1099 compliance.
  • Accounts Receivable: Manage customer accounts, reconcile daily deposits, and oversee collections.
  • General Accounting: Perform core accounting functions with accuracy and consistency across financial systems.
  • Month-End Close: Perform monthly close activities and assist in the preparation of internal financial reporting packages.
  • Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Fixed Assets: Maintain fixed asset schedules and manage depreciation entries.
  • Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements, including but not limited to sales/use tax, excise tax, property tax, business licenses, and beverage-specific regulations (TABC, TTB).
  • Administrative Support: Assist the front desk and collaborate with office personnel to support general operations.
  • Audit Support & Reporting: Provide documentation and support for audits and internal financial reports.
  • Process Improvement: Participate in ongoing efforts to improve accounting efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other job-related duties as assigned, showcasing flexibility and a willingness to contribute to team success.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 1–3 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks) is a plus.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work with integrity, handle confidential information, and collaborate across departments.
