This position provides coordination of the Idaho Department of Education (Department) programs and initiatives to support career readiness in Idaho’s education system. This position is part of the College and Career Readiness team and is responsible for resource support designed to increase career readiness, high school completion, and support for various federal and state programs. This position will primarily be focused on secondary school support for college and career advising, school counseling and best practices for such programs as Advanced Opportunities. The role will require communication and outreach, understanding of high school systems (e.g. dual credit, work-based learning, and student information systems), the development of college and career resources, guidance for state programs and may serve as a representative to various cooperative initiatives for college and career readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with partner agencies to provide a wholistic approach to career exploration training and resources.
  • Develop guidelines and resources for Career Pathway plans & process for statewide integration.
  • Align Advanced Opportunities with related programs and services provided by the Department, Career Technical Education (CTE), Workforce Development Council (WDC), and the State Board of Education (SBOE).
  • Develop and implement state-wide policies and frameworks for school counseling programs.
  • Use best practices to support the integration of College and Career Competencies into schools.
  • Develop resources to support high school graduation requirements.
  • Support training for the Future Readiness Project.
  • Facilitate the development of Pathways.
  • Provide professional development related to college and career readiness for k-12 staff.
  • Provide outreach and technical assistance to schools, students and parents for intentional participation in, and successful completion of, Advanced Opportunities.
  • Understand and apply relevant education laws and rules in the administration of college/career programs.
  • Provide guidance and have a strong knowledge base for Idaho High School graduation requirements and best practices post high school.
  • Research and develop college/career access and preparation resources for dissemination.
  • Create, update, and disseminate marketing and educational materials through a variety of mediums.
  • Serve as a liaison, and strengthen collaboration between, postsecondary, secondary, governmental and private sector partners to ensure alignment to requirements, goals and equitable opportunities.
  • Respond to inquiries from parents, students, schools and stakeholders in a timely, professional manner.
  • Identify and address technical barriers to career readiness program adoption.
  • Execute and manage contracts for programs and support.
  • Provide guidance and communication related to high school graduation requirements, transcription, work-based learning.
  • Support federal program compliance and implementation of college and career related programs.
  • Serve as a central point of contact and compile resources for Idaho school counselors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in education or a related field is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of public settings.
  • Considerable expertise in human relations skills, customer service and the ability to drive continuous improvement through relationship-building.
  • High level of attention to detail and the ability to manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Ability to work independently, research and make informed decisions and recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects and priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to assert strong leadership and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Idaho high school graduation requirements, current State of Idaho college and career readiness programs, and postsecondary enrollment procedures.
  • Ability to travel throughout Idaho and to national meetings as required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a field related to student college and career preparedness.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • More than two years’ experience in a 9-12 school environment with experience related to college and career programs.
  • School counselors or educational leadership.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work with large data sets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:(with or without reasonable accommodation)

This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:

  • Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.
  • Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.
  • Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.
  • Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.
  • Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
  • Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.
  • Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.
  • Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.

Travel Required

This position requires approximately 20% travel time throughout the state and nationally for training and monitoring.

Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.

Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
