General Summary

Functions as a subject matter expert in utilizing Sheriff’s Office software applications, third-party applications, database systems and technology to complete assignments. Maintains and updates large, mission critical database systems utilized for immediate information needs of upper-level staff, in addition to specialized divisional reports. Researches, compiles, and analyzes information and data specific to assigned area of specialty. Develops/edits reports, orders, policies, and formats as requested by upper-level Sheriff’s Office staff. May Review/edit documents, videos and recordings utilizing FOIA laws and requests, and perform background investigations for the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Departments. Process requests for information that have unique circumstances such as open reports, and high crime offenses. Reviews and logs requests for jail CCTV cameras, in car patrol camera and body worn camera videos by mail, in-person, fax, and GOVQA portal. Independently determines what exceptions apply to FOIA requests, considering FOIA Statues, Public Acts and Michigan Compiled Laws. Researches and interprets Michigan Compiled Laws governing public disclosure. Processes requests by searching, locating, reviewing, and redacting video, documents, and recordings. Utilizes Sheriff specific software to research and process requests. Coordinates with command, officers, and Corporation Counsel to complete requests. Assists Prosecutor’s Office with trial preparation and discovery by coordinating with Defense Attorneys for discovery. Receives all 911 calls, radio records and dispatch card requests via mail. Receives and responds to subpoenas for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, including coordinating information and research with Sheriff’s Office command staff, and Corporation Counsel as needed. Researches, redacts, and responds to requests. Maintains statistical database for FOIA and Digital Media Evidence (DME) requests. May work with police agencies, cities, villages, and townships based on assigned location and elected officials throughout the County. Works with Information Technology to resolve technical software and hardware problems. Completes payroll duties, orders offices supes and maintains inventory for assigned area. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) Test.
  • Have had four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience assisting professional level staff in the compilation and preparation of divisional reports or performing data input and maintenance; at least one (1) year of which included the use of specialized departmental software applications.

NOTE: Course work at an accredited college, university, business, or commercial school in a related area may be substituted for up to three (3) years of the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements

A background investigation will be conducted covering an evaluation of employment, school, home, credit, criminal, military, or other personal records. Any conviction or convictions for moving traffic violations, accidents, non-moving traffic violations, or violations of other laws will be reviewed by the Sheriff’s Office before an applicant can be appointed. Information obtained during the background investigation will be considered in the hiring decision. Convictions of the Domestic Violence Statute will be a disqualifying factor.

Pay Range

USD $49,884.00 - USD $66,835.00 /Yr.
