Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is relied upon to manage a variety of Human Resources related programs and functions essential to achieving strategic divisional goals. Major programs include but are not limited to organizational planning and development, attracting, screening, and interviewing applicants, orienting new employees, administration of benefits and HR training programs. The Human Resources Generalist must be able to multitask, work well in a fast paced, deadline driven environment, and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining employee and related HR data on the HRIS and applicable systems which includes new employee documentation, recall and orientation, and ongoing employee HR administration. Processing employee status changes in the HRIS and support appropriate reporting needs as required.
  • Responsible for the effective administration and communication of employee health and welfare benefits, vacation administration and retirement programs. Ensures the online database with the benefit carrier regarding terminations, changes to eligibility, coordinating of benefits is accurate.
  • Drives division talent acquisition process from initial application>employee. Presents offers of employment and pre-employment requirements necessary for hire. Responsible for conducting and coordinating new employee orientation.
  • Ensures appropriate maintenance of HR Personnel records and file retention according to local laws. Assists with employee termination process, explanation and administration of associated benefits.
  • Prepares period end reports, providing ad hoc reports as required and maintaining hourly seniority listings in accordance with collective agreements, if applicable. Schedules and ensuring the hourly wage progressions are processed in accordance with the governing collective agreements or policies.
  • Coordinates and executes Human Resource Programs: service recognition, all charities campaigns, etc.
  • Organizes and follows up on the hourly performance review systems in place.
  • Provides explanation of HR related policies, procedures, and programs. Makes recommendations regarding areas of opportunity and improvement.
  • Coordinates employee training and liaises with vendors when required. Facilitates training modules and promotes application of concepts among learners.
  • Performs physical security clearance for new hires and current employees based on customer requirement or legislation (ITAR, CGP, Security access, Designated Official, and others when applicable)

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field; or three to five years HR experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; PHR or SHRM-CP certification completed or in progress is a plus.

Key Competencies

Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting Human Resources functions. Experience in a manufacturing and union environment is preferred.

Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required. Experience working with HRIS databases. Experience working with Success Factors will be considered an asset.

Abilities

Detail oriented with the ability to handle and complete multiple projects concurrently. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with candidates, employees, and hiring managers. Ability to convey a positive and professional image to applicants and employees.
