Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Benefits and Leaves Specialist is responsible for overseeing employee benefits programs and leave administration. This role ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations and provides support to employees regarding their benefits and leave entitlements. The specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate records, processing claims, and facilitating effective communication between employees and benefits providers.
Minimum Qualifications
Work is performed inside and outside in varying temperatures. Employee may occasionally be required to push or lift to 25 pounds. May be exposed to office supply odors or vapors. Employee is sitting, most of the time. Employee is also required to stand, walk, type, bend, write, read, interpret and explain complex issues and speak on the telephone.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or similar program required.
- 2-4 years of experience in leave management and benefits administration.
- Professional certification such as aPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or CEBS is preferred.
- Administering employee benefits programs including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, and wellness programs.
- Communicating benefits options to employees and assisting them in understanding and selecting appropriate plans.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
- Ensure monthly enrollments and other changes are processed in HRIS timely.
- Processing employee benefit claims and ensuring timely and accurate payment of benefits.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of employee benefits and enrollments.
- Administer various employee leave programs including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term disability, long-term disability, personal leave, and other statutory leaves.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws and company policies.
- Using HRIS system to track and maintain detailed records of employee leave requests, usage, and balances.
- Provide guidance and support to employees regarding leave options, eligibility, and documentation requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws related to leaves and benefits.
- Prepare and submit required monthly, quarterly and annual reports to HR Director and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Conduct regular audits of leave and benefits programs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in benefits and leave laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local leave laws and benefits regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Knowledge of HRIS and benefits management software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
