Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Coordinator to oversee and coordinate mechanical maintenance and construction activities at our petrochemical refinery. This role serves as the critical link between operations, maintenance teams, contractors, and project teams to ensure mechanical work is executed safely, efficiently, and in line with refinery standards and procedures.
The Mechanical Coordinator will play a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of fixed and rotating equipment, ensuring timely completion of planned work, managing emergent repairs, and supporting turnaround and capital project activities.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Coordinator to oversee and coordinate mechanical maintenance and construction activities at our petrochemical refinery. The Mechanical Coordinator will play a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of fixed and rotating equipment, ensuring timely completion of planned work, managing emergent repairs, and supporting turnaround and capital project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Work Coordination & Execution:
- Coordinate day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and replacements of piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, and other refinery equipment.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and planning teams to prioritize work and align schedules to minimize downtime and optimize asset availability.
- Ensure all mechanical work is performed according to site safety policies, procedures, and industry standards.
- Review and validate job scopes, work packages, and materials to ensure jobs are ready for execution.
- Interface with contractors and vendors to ensure work is performed to contract requirements and technical specifications.
- Monitor the health and reliability of mechanical systems, including fixed and rotating equipment, and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide field leadership during critical work activities, such as equipment changeouts, pressure testing, or confined space entries.
- Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for significant equipment failures and recommend preventive actions.
- Act as the mechanical focal point for assigned work during turnarounds, outages, and capital projects.
- Participate in scope development, work package review, and contractor pre-job meetings.
- Support project and turnaround teams by identifying potential risks and opportunities related to mechanical work scopes.
- Ensure all mechanical work meets regulatory requirements (OSHA, API, ASME) and company engineering standards.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, including equipment history, inspection reports, and quality assurance documentation.
- Participate in mechanical integrity programs and ensure findings are properly addressed and documented.
- Reinforce safety culture by ensuring all work is performed with a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Conduct field safety audits, participate in pre-job safety reviews, and address any safety concerns raised by workers.
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree a plus)
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a petrochemical, refinery, or heavy industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, mechanical seals, and welding processes
- Proven ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, mechanical drawings, and equipment data sheets
- Experience coordinating work involving multiple crafts and contractors
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle emergent work safely and efficiently
- Proficiency with SAP PM (or similar CMMS system) and Microsoft Office Suite
- API certification(s) (e.g., API 510, API 570)
- Knowledge of refinery mechanical standards and recommended practices (API, ASME, ANSI, etc.)
- Experience supporting refinery turnarounds and capital projects
- Previous experience as a mechanical supervisor, planner, or foreman
