The Development Specialist plays a key role in supporting fundraising, donor engagement, and event coordination efforts to advance the mission of RMCHF. Working closely with the Director of Development, this position will collaborate on stewardship and donor engagement, helping to retain and grow donor relationships through outreach, corporate partnerships, and fundraising campaigns.

 

In addition, the Development Specialist supports fundraising events and community engagement initiatives, collaborating with the Events Coordinator to organize in-kind donations, special projects, and donor recognition efforts. This role also helps manage donor data, ensuring accurate gift processing, acknowledgments, and prospect research to identify new funding opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Stewardship & Donor EngagementWork closely with the Director of Development to help retain and upgrade existing donors through outreach and direct solicitations.
  • Secure new donors by building and maintaining relationships, with a focus on corporate partnerships.
  • Manage a select portfolio of donors and donor prospects, including engagement in:Colorado Gives Day campaigns
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising asks
  • End-of-year (EOY) fundraising appeals
  • Stewardship activities (e.g., holiday cards, thank-you notes)
  • Conduct donor prospecting and research to identify new funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate on the creation of a prospect pipeline and assist in identifying high-value donors within existing data.
  • Fundraising & Event SupportCollaborate with the Events Coordinator to solicit in-kind donations as assigned.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating special projects that align with the organization’s goals.
  • Support fundraising campaigns, working closely with the marketing team.
  • Represent RMCHF at assigned events, including Dine and Donate events, third-party fundraisers, Stink Bug Project and PAWS for RMC events, and more.
  • Support the Events Coordinator in planning and executing special events, ensuring smooth logistics and coordination.
  • Programs & Community EngagementOrganize and oversee toy and diaper drives.
  • Coordinate with donors and internal teams on in-kind delivery and donation efforts.
  • Engage with local businesses interested in hosting donation drives.
  • Partner with programs team to develop volunteer opportunities with companies and organizations.
  • Database SupportUpdate Blackbaud REnxt database with updated donor information as needed.
  • Identify and follow up with donors to ensure proper fund distribution from donor-advised funds (DAFs) as needed.
  • Review weekly gift records to ensure appropriate acknowledgment letters are sent.
  • Work with the Database Coordinator to accurately process donor gifts, acknowledgments, recognition, and stewardship efforts.
  • Coordinate with marketing team on Donor Welcome Series and other list needs.
  • Grants & Research - Conduct initial grant research to identify potential funding opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary to support fundraising and organizational goals.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • 2-3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development
  • Excitement for our mission and a genuine desire to help move it forward.
  • Familiarity with fundraising strategies and best practices—or a willingness to learn/grow in this area.
  • Great communication and people skills, with the ability to connect with donors, team members, and partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and a knack for juggling multiple projects while staying on top of details.
  • A team player who can also thrive independently, bringing both collaboration and initiative
  • Comfort with technology and data systems that support fundraising and donor engagement (experience with Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge is a plus!).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)—or the ability to pick up new tools quickly.
