Description

The Employment Specialist is a vital position responsible for supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals participating in the Rhode Island Department of Human Services RI Works program. This role is focused on enhancing employability by identifying and addressing barriers to employment and providing access to various supportive services such as job training, job placement, and educational opportunities. The Employment Specialist works closely with individuals to help them achieve both short- and long-term career goals.

The Employment Specialist's responsibilities include preparing individuals for employment through job search assistance, job readiness training, and vocational education.

Strong communication skills and the ability to apply critical thinking techniques are essential for success in this role. The Employment Specialist works a standard schedule from Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (37.5 hours per week), with occasional adjustments as needed to support individuals outside these hours, subject to supervisory approval.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation, or a related field.
  • One year of related experience in case management skills and experience in family dynamics, health, and knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to relate to a broad range of individuals including clients, colleagues, and corporate decision-makers.
  • Commitment to high-quality customer services and demonstrated business connections
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Great time management, attentiveness, problem-solving abilities, reliability, adaptability, attention to detail, effective decision making and prompt response time to deadlines/ documentation
  • Team player and proactive mentality
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Experience may be substituted for education.
