Location: Community-based; travel required. We are currently hiring for positions in Blair and Centre counties.

Employment Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 per hour

About The Role

We're seeking individuals with lived experience in mental health or substance use recovery to inspire and support others on their journey. As a CPS, you will model recovery, offer guidance, and help individuals build coping skills and connect with resources. You'll work with both adults and youth (ages 14-26), fostering growth and self-empowerment.

CPSs serve as mentors, advocates, and motivators, helping peers set and achieve goals, access local services, and navigate their recovery with hope and resilience.

What You’ll Do

  • Work 15-29 hours/week; sessions may occur any day between 7AM-8PM
  • Share recovery experiences to foster connection and hope
  • Support peers in goal setting, self-advocacy, and community engagement
  • Promote recovery planning (e.g., WRAP, ISP)
  • Refer to treatment services as needed
  • Facilitate access to resources (housing, education, employment, healthcare)
  • Help build life skills (budgeting, housekeeping, job prep, etc.)
  • Maintain required certifications and complete ongoing training (18 hours/year)
  • Advocate for peers and help navigate recovery challenges
  • Travel locally and maintain documentation
  • Must meet physical demands typical of community-based work

What We’re Looking For

  • Lived mental health experience with a minimum of 1 year in recovery
  • At least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel
  • Completion of a Peer/Recovery Specialist Certification
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, with effective communication skills and basic knowledge of community resources
  • Must obtain the following clearances prior to hire: PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Criminal History, and Mandated Reporting Certificate
  • Passion for collaborating with people, being a role model for recovery, and making a positive impact
  • Willing and able to support both adults and youth/young adults (ages 14-26) through sharing personal recovery experience
  • Candidates with co-occurring recovery experience may be eligible for cross-training as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS)
