Assistant Controller

THE ROLE

We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and experienced Assistant Controller capable of fitting into our dynamic work environment to oversee the accounting operations of our companies. The ideal candidate will have a strong GAAP knowledge, good interpersonal skills, and a focus on streamlining accounting processes and team development. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing the accounting for our five companies and ensuring the company’s finances are in order. This position will report directly to the Controller.

Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll activities, including the monthly close processes.
• Manage and mentor a team of accountants and support staff, while providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and other accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and propose solutions for improvement. Implement best practices across our businesses in the U.S. and Europe.
• Ensure compliance with US and European accounting principles (GAAP and IFRS) and local regulations. Stay updated on changes to statutory reporting and accounting standards.
• Support the Controller with tax, legal and other related items as required.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA designation desirable but not required.
• Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP. A working knowledge of IFRS is also desirable but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify errors and discrepancies.
• Good people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks or others) and Microsoft Excel is a plus.
