The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients with mental health conditions, emotional disorders, and psychiatric illnesses. The role involves monitoring patient progress, administering medication, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring a safe therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients’ mental and physical health.
- Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers.
- Administer psychotropic medications and monitor for side effects.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, crisis management, and de-escalation support.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment plans.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment by following protocols and safety procedures.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to care planning.
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies and implement interventions as needed.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific).
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; psychiatric nursing preferred.
- BLS/CPR certification (required).
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar training (preferred or required by some facilities).
- Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and remain calm under pressure.
- Inpatient psychiatric units, behavioral health centers, hospitals, or outpatient clinics.
- Shift work may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
