Patient Registrar
This position enables patients to secure access to care at facilities by performing all tasks related to registration and pre-registration of outpatient and inpatient accounts. Calculates and secures patient liability, including copayments, coinsurance and deductibles in an efficient, accurate and hospitable manner to ensure that the patient, physician and hospital’s needs are met.
This role is onsite in Whittier, California.

Calculates and secures patient liability, including copayments, coinsurance and deductibles in an efficient, accurate and hospitable manner to ensure that the patient, physician and hospital’s needs are met.

Patient Registrar Responsibilities
- Register and pre-register patients efficiently and accurately, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, and securing upfront payments when applicable.
- Conduct financial screenings for uninsured patients, assisting with eligibility applications for medical coverage programs.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the patient database, ensuring timely updates on eligibility status and registration details.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations, safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Provide exceptional guest relations by greeting patients and visitors professionally, anticipating concerns, and clearly explaining the registration process.
- Manage patient documentation, including scanning and filing insurance cards, authorization forms, and consent documents.
- Assist with emergency department registrations, ensuring patients receive proper financial screening and insurance verification.
- Utilize hospital systems to maintain efficiency and accuracy while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate with agency workers, financial counselors, and hospital departments to ensure a smooth registration process.
- Follow up on pending verifications and applications to ensure patients receive timely assistance.
- Adhere to attendance policies and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
- Stay up to date with training and policy updates to support continuous improvement in registration procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare facility, hospital, or medical office setting.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance billing processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, staff, and insurance providers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the ability to navigate multiple systems efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to type 45+ words per minute.
- Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin preferred.
- Must be able to travel to off-site locations as needed.
