The YMCA is looking for a Part-Time Cook who can help prepare meals for our Nourish Program, our Child Nutrition program. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing food, cooking meals, and keeping a sanitized work area. We are seeking an individual who has experience in the food service industry and is committed to provide nutritious meals to kids in need who attend after school and summer camp programs. Location: Rock Island YMCA, 2715 30th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201
Weekly Hours Available: Up to 30 per week
Hours: Monday-Friday 6 am – 12 pm (hours may vary)
Rate of pay: $15 per hour
Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nourish, the general function of this position is to prepare meals for the Nourish Food Program. They will possess full knowledge of Y philosophy, workings of a program locations and groups, and understand character development as the chief mission of the Y and personally exhibits a commitment to this in all Y operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma is preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform simple math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR/AED/First Aid for infant, child and adult, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and if driving for the YMCA a valid Driver’s License and valid Car Insurance. Food Sanitation Certification but be obtained within 90 days. Other trainings as assigned.

- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Experience with kitchen equipment - conventional/convection ovens, stove tops & warmers.
- Cook and prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables or preparing sauces).
- Strong time management to prepare meals efficiently.
- Attention to detail for food presentation and portion control.
- Adaptability to different menus and dietary restrictions.
- Clean up station and take care of leftover food.
- Assist the rest of the Nourish staff in the preparation for meal sites.
- Help with organizing and storing products on delivery days.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and program staff.
- Arrive to work on time with your nametag, proper attire, Y staff shirt, and a positive attitude.
- Work as a team with other Y staff members.
