The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and troubleshooting automated solutions for our ultrasensitive immunoassay platform. This is a newly created role that will play a crucial part in advancing the success of Spear Bio's technology and platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement laboratory automation solutions including robotics, software, and hardware.
  • Responsible optimizing design specifications of automated systems.
  • Integrate new equipment and processes into existing automated systems as needed.
  • Collaborate closely and support cross-functional teams by resolving technical issues with liquid handling machines, to ensure equipment is functional
  • Conduct rigorous testing, simulation, and validation of automation systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and configure control systems. Make informed modifications to control systems and software for improvement.
  • Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify and resolve potential issues and risks, implementing opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Proactively identify and suggest upgrades for various systems as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of automation systems, change controls, and maintenance activities; program protocol modification and validation for Spear workflows.
  • Assist calibration technicians in the calibration/maintenance of automated control systems and associated devices.

Requirements

  • MS or MEng degree in biomechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience with lab instrument automation engineering in the life sciences or diagnostics industry.
  • Must have prior experience developing and implementing automation solutions with laboratory robotics, liquid handling systems, software, and hardware.
  • Proven success understanding requirements/specifications to develop control systems independently.
  • Strong understanding of industry regulations and compliance (GMP, ISO:13485, etc.)
  • Proven project coordination/management capabilities in order to successfully drive project deliverables and risk assessment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
