JOB SUMMARY: The Safety Coordinator position provides an on-site presence for all Rimrock facilities during varied hours to deter criminal activity, serve as support personnel in emergent situations, monitors and controls access to facilities as needed, and documents incidents as needed. Educates and enforces safety policies and procedures. Assure adherence to state statutes and rules, CARF standards, and federal regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. Positively represents the organization and promotes Rimrock’s Mission to the community.

Essential Functions

  • Provides a physical presence at Rimrock facilities by making routine rounds by foot to assess and ensure the environment is safe for employees and clients.
  • Will routinely monitor video surveillance and respond in the event of suspicious activity.
  • Will communicate by telephone and walkie talkie with staff throughout the shift.
  • Checks that doors are locked and secure and alarms set after hours.
  • Will identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and potential health concern and report those to the Safety Manager.
  • Will serve as a support to the Safety Manager when training or drills are conducted.
  • Will drive by and monitor off-site facilities on a routine basis throughout the overnight shift.
  • Accompany employee to autos before or after shifts if needed.
  • Attend safety trainings as needed.
  • Report all incidents, unusual events and emergencies immediately to both Supervisors and nurse on duty, according to Rimrock’s policies and procedures.
  • At the completion of daily shift will provide a daily activity update to incoming personnel.
  • Intervene and de-escalate situations, when necessary, at the Main Facility and at the off-site locations.
  • Reports any behavioral issues to the clinical care team as needed.
  • Oversees visitor access to Rimrock facilities during scheduled shifts.
  • Perform daily luggage searches and transport luggage to storage area.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-services.
  • Follow guidelines under code of conduct section in employee handbook.
  • Monitor and accompany client on any nicotine breaks outside the facility when needed. Conducts a safety sweep of the external locations prior to clients exiting the building.
  • Complies with regular, predictable, and reliable attendance standards.
  • Maintain and secure the area during an incident to limit unnecessary traffic and distraction.
  • Provides education and enforcement of Rimrock safety policies and procedures
  • Authorizes access to Rimrock facilities overnight and escorts emergency personnel, which may include fire, police, ambulance staff.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures and assist in an actual event or drill situation. Assists the medical unit personnel in providing basic first aid in emergent situations when necessary.
  • Will monitor and observe video surveillance of all Rimrock facilities with overnight activity and responds as needed or contacts 911 when relevant.
  • Completes incident reports regarding suspicious behavior, property damage, contraband, emergencies, etc.
  • Ensures inpatient clients are accounted for and secure within the building and documents those checks in the comm log and My Evolve.
  • Will perform routine luggage searches on a daily basis and transport client personal belongings to the appropriate departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to communicate and work with patients with addictions. Attend monthly departmental sessions and in-services. View non-violent crisis intervention tapes/videos and attend related training. Prior safety experience is required.

Certificate Or License

  • A valid driver’s license required.
  • A valid Montana Security Officer license, preferred
  • Must be insurable under Rimrock’s driving policy. May not have more than 2 violations/accidents or suspensions/reinstatements within 3 years. May not have any DUI/Reckless/Felony driving convictions within 5 years.
  • CPR and First Aid training certification

SKILLS: Communication; ability to take direction and work adjunctively with therapeutic team; provide empathy and possess a knowledge and compassion of patients with addiction and implement positive reinforcement of patients. Must have the ability to anticipate safety concerns and respond accordingly. Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft software including Word, Excel and Outlook.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors with moderate noise. Intermittent physical effort involving lifting of up to 50 pounds, walking and stooping is required. A typical workday involves walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, and talking and hearing, approximately 70% of the time. Approximately 30% or less of the time is spent sitting. Normal vision abilities required, including close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/JOB LOCATIONS: Involves everyday risk or discomfort requiring normal safety precautions in an office setting, meeting room and patient care areas. Work may involve mental and emotional stress. Some driving required. Will work throughout all Rimrock facilities with adult patients.
