Data Engineer II

We currently have a new career opportunity for a full-time Data Engineer II based out of our corporate office (Enterprise) in Appleton! After initial onboarding onsite, this position could have the opportunity for hybrid (3-4 days onsite/1-2 days remote) work consideration, however, candidates must reside in Wisconsin to be considered.
The Data Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing our enterprise data solution. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Building scalable data pipelines for data transport from a variety of sources and formats.
- Transforming raw data into refined data sets to support analytics and reporting.
- Ensuring proper data security and protections are enabled and adhered to.
The primary responsibilities of the Data Engineer II role include but are not limited to:

Data Engineer II:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to collect, process, and store data from various sources such as DB2, SQL, XML, CSV.
- Collaborate with data analysts, architects, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data quality and integrity.
- Implement and optimize data storage solutions, including data warehouses, data lakes, and databases.
- Performance measuring, query tuning, and database tuning for optimal performance.
- Develop and maintain stored procedures, data models, schemas, and documentation to support data governance, data management, and data enablement.
- Develop and implement automated processes that can be scheduled to trigger at specific times, ensuring logging and monitoring for reliability and performance tracking.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and systems to ensure reliability and performance.
- Perform root cause analysis on external and internal processes, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering and recommend improvements to existing processes and technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technology, business intelligence, business lines, systems support, infrastructure, architecture, and application delivery.
Compliance and Security:
- Ensure all solutions comply with credit union regulations, privacy standards, and security best practices.
- Conduct regular code reviews and vulnerability assessments to maintain secure systems.
Risk and Compliance:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with solution design and implementation.
- Ensure all solutions comply with regulatory requirements.
Candidates for the Data Engineer II position should possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Proven experience in data engineering or similar role with 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or related role.
- Experience in credit union operations and regulatory compliance is desirable.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server).
- Python, SQL, Scala, Power BI.
- Azure Data Factory or other cloud native ETL processes.
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, and Azure Data Lake for data storage and processing.
- Expertise in building scalable data pipelines, including incremental data loads and data transformations.
- Expertise with GitHub, Azure Dev Ops, or Jenkins for version control and CI/CD.
- Knowledge and experience with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with security and authentication methods like Azure Data Factory and role-based control (RBAC).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical detail and strong investigative mindset.
- Ability to balance multiple priority items.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrates a proactive approach to sharing expertise and knowledge with colleagues to foster skill development and continuous learning.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make informed decisions while working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional Qualifications Desired:
- Exposure or understanding of Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with Agile Methodologies.
- Understanding data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
