Position Summary

Location: Dallas, & Austin, TX

Join our partner firm KFM Engineering & Design, as a CAD Designer to join our team. This role is integral to our mission of delivering exceptional civil engineering, design, and land use solutions across Texas. The CAD Designer will be responsible for creating precise technical drawings, 2D and 3D models, and construction documents to support a wide range of projects. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and clients, this role demands a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, site development, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate is proactive, collaborative, and committed to excellence, with the ability to transform design concepts into high-quality technical plans. Whether at the junior or senior level, the CAD Designer will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and innovation in all project deliverables.

Essential Responsibilities

Senior CAD Designers:

  • Lead complex design projects, ensuring high-quality and efficient drafting.
  • Develop detailed technical drawings and 3D models with precision and accuracy.
  • Draft plan and profile views of improvement plans, such as street, storm drain, sewer, water and other underground improvements, using Civil3D features including but not limited to smart labels, corridors, surfaces, and alignments.
  • Draft plan view of detailed, and rough grading plans for various clientele, such as commercial and industrial developers.
  • Generate earthwork models and utilize Civil 3D tools to perform quantity calculations and prepare “heat maps” depicting areas of deep cut and/or fill.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers, reviewing their work for accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align designs with project goals.
  • Stay up to date with CAD software advancements and suggest improvements in workflows.
  • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.
  • Prepare industry standard templates for various clients and projects.

Qualifications

Senior CAD Designers:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in CAD design, drafting, or modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Deep understanding of industry standards, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Experience in leading projects and mentoring junior designers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to optimize designs.
  • Additional certifications in CAD software or design principles are a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills and Microsoft 365 experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and ArcGIS.
  • Experience in following and enforcing municipal, Stat, and company CAD standards.
