Description
The Head Chef is responsible for providing assistance to the Dining Center Supervisor including, but not limited, to the oversight of the daily operations of the kitchen. The Head Chef will assist with the development of menus, food purchase specifications and recipes. In addition to the technical duties listed below, the Head Chef's responsibility is to grow and serve as a leader to the residents and with the staff at City Mission. This person will also develop and maintain strong working relationships with all other departments in the organization. This person will report directly to the Dining Center Supervisor.
Specific Responsibilities
Qualifications and Skills:
The Head Chef is responsible for providing assistance to the Dining Center Supervisor including, but not limited, to the oversight of the daily operations of the kitchen. The Head Chef will assist with the development of menus, food purchase specifications and recipes. In addition to the technical duties listed below, the Head Chef's responsibility is to grow and serve as a leader to the residents and with the staff at City Mission. This person will also develop and maintain strong working relationships with all other departments in the organization. This person will report directly to the Dining Center Supervisor.
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensure all food safety regulations are followed
- Inspect the quality of the food
- Assist with the training and coordination of all kitchen staff including volunteers and residents
- Assist in the Mission Works Program in the mentoring and training of resident interns
- Assist with maintaining a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment; ensuring a high standard of sanitation, cleanliness and safety in all areas.
- Regularly cook and oversee prep and cooking that require skillful preparation.
- Assist with training and professional development opportunities for all kitchen staff and resident interns
- Regularly visit dining area for both residents and community when it is open to welcome and engage
- Regularly interact with donors; receive and allocate donations efficiently and professionally
- Be an active participant in weekly meetings; share ideas
- Willing to participate in various rotating shifts, including weekend coverage
Qualifications and Skills:
- 3-5 years’ experience in Kitchen leadership preferred
- ServSafe credentialed, or willing and able obtain the certification within 30 days from the start of employment
- Ability to work with and be sensitive with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to set the model in upholding positive culture
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have a clean driving record
- High school diploma /GED
- Prolonged periods of standing on hard surfaces
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
