Job Purpose And Reporting Structure
The Director of Quality Assurance is a strategic leader who ensures Malteurop’s Quality System enables the production of malt that consistently meets our customers’ requirements for quality and food safety. Reporting to the Senior Regional Director of Operations, this position will own and execute the North America Quality strategy and roadmap in alignment with the Malteurop global organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Director of Quality provides direct supervision of the Central Laboratory leaders in the US and Mexico and the Quality Specialists. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning and assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Attract, develop, reward and retain a highly skilled, multi-site quality assurance team
- Build a culture of accountability and urgency within Quality Assurance that puts the customer at the center of every conversation
- Quality Compliance
- Prepares monthly barley compliance reports and maintains historical database
- Provides statistical analysis for the approval and verification of satellite laboratories
- Develop, monitor and control compliance indices for production
- Identifies and communicates trends in barley procured, malt produced and malt shipments to cross-functional stakeholders
- Provides feedback to plants in terms of shipment compliance
- Approves all shipment data reported to customers
- Collaborates with Continuous Improvement team to reduce process variation and improves final malt consistency
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Technical Account Manager for all customers
- Works with Procurement, Commercial and Production to set specifications for raw materials and finished malt
- Presents and negotiates specifications with customers
- Responds to all customer inquiries and drives Root Cause Analysis
- Provides troubleshooting or corrective action where required
- Assists in sales allocation discussions when needed
- Responsible for the pilot malting in terms of use and communication of results
- Coordinates analysis used in plant / process studies
- Supports the development of new analytical methods
- Coordinates customer analysis / sample requests
- Collaborates with brewers on special analytical projects
- Represents company through active participation in industry professional organizations
- Assists in the preparation of presentations for external or internal customers, including monthly feedback graphs.
- Performs in-process quality audits at the US, Canada and Mexico malting operations, transloads, barley storage and bagged malt warehouses
- Oversees all plant trials and micromalting trials.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's : Food Sciences or related field; Master’s Degree Plus
- Minimum of 10 years quality experience including at least 5years of quality control team management experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a malt, beer or food laboratory. This experience should Hands-on laboratory analysis and pilot malting experience
- Minimum of 5 years of practical data evaluation, and practical knowledge of barley biochemistry.
- SAP experience a plus however experience using an ERP system is required
- Experienced in working with GMPs, SQF, HACCP and regulatory affairs (USDA/FDA)
- Thorough working understanding of industrial food processing
- A self-starter, problem solver, shows a sense of urgency and accountability
- Attention to detail
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Understands principles of food manufacturing and process flow
- Extensive knowledge of industrial food manufacturing
- Solid understanding of food quality control and food safety management.
- Requires advance experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Must be able to perform literature searches of a technical nature.
- Makes sounds decisions when faced with multi-faceted problems, seeks staff input for decision making and considers all alternatives before making decisions.
- The ability to use statistical functions is also required. This position requires the person to be able to construct linear correlations and to display any of the aforementioned mathematical operations graphically using Microsoft Excel.
- Must be able to extract data from a database and group according to criteria. Requires ability to extrapolate and identify related occurrences. Must be able to apply scientific principles to design ways to test a hypothesis made from observations.
- Requires the ability to use a computer and associated peripheral devices and operate all laboratory equipment currently in use.
