Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Health Services Operations, to drive the strategic and operational expansion of our clinical and direct-to-consumer health services. This leadership role requires a forward-thinking operator who can integrate business development, laboratory operations, compliance, and team management into a cohesive growth engine. The ideal candidate brings a blend of healthcare operations expertise, entrepreneurial execution, and regulatory savvy to advance Mercola Health’s mission of transforming health through innovation and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Business Operations Expansion & Development
    • Lead the development and expansion of clinical business operations, including the conceptualization and execution of new business lines.
    • Manage the company’s transition into a national health platform, overseeing cross-functional initiatives and deliverables.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations and workflow of our direct-to-consumer lab services, ensuring customer satisfaction and clinical accuracy.
    • Collaborate with product development teams to support the creation and launch of the company’s mobile health application.
  • New Laboratory Build-Out and Compliance
    • Manage the planning and build-out of a new clinical laboratory, ensuring full compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, and state-specific healthcare regulations.
    • Optimize the realignment of the research and development laboratory to ensure valid scientific findings and appropriate clinical reporting.
  • Revenue Generation
    • Identify and develop new healthcare revenue streams, including launching and scaling direct-to-consumer lab testing initiatives such as Dried Blood Spot (DBS) testing.
    • Collaborate with the marketing and product teams to design customer upselling strategies, increasing customer lifetime value through supplement sales and other offerings.
  • Leadership & Operational Efficiency
    • Operate as the most senior leader for the function, optimizing systems, workflows, and business outcomes.
    • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement robust solutions.
    • Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with new vendors and software providers to streamline operations and reduce costs.
    • Hire, lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of direct reports and consultants, driving clarity, accountability, and strategic execution.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Work
    • Work in close partnership with legal counsel to navigate and secure multi-state direct-to-consumer lab testing approval, ensuring a compliant national rollout.
    • Build and maintain a scalable compliance framework that aligns with evolving regulations and internal growth objectives.
  • Future-Focused Initiatives
    • Support the strategic development of a national telehealth provider network and its seamless integration into the existing Mercola Health platform.
Requirements/Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree or higher in Healthcare Administration, Clinical Operations, Public Health, or a related field strongly preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in clinical operations, laboratory management, or healthcare business development.
    • Demonstrated experience launching and scaling direct-to-consumer lab testing services or digital health platforms.
  • Other
    • Deep belief that healthcare should be accessible to everyone.
    • Proven success leading complex, cross-functional healthcare projects and operational buildouts.
    • Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance (CLIA, HIPAA, FDA, state-level regulations).
    • Excellent contract negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable vendor agreements.
    • Strong leadership presence with experience managing both internal teams and external consultants.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to think strategically and execute quickly and tactically.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL

  • This is a remote position, with collaboration occurring virtually across time zones.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, digital-first environment, maintaining high levels of autonomy and proactive communication.
  • Occasional travel (up to 15-20%) may be required for site visits (e.g., lab facilities), vendor meetings, team offsites, meetings at Mercola headquarters, or industry conferences.
