This position is responsible for processing, maintaining, storing, and retrieving patient health information in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and accrediting agencies’ requirements.

The ideal candidate should have outstanding communication skills, a strong attention to detail, will work in compliance with Federal and State rules, regulations, and policy related to revenue cycle activities.

Education And Experience

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent is required; some college preferred with medical insurance posting or bookkeeping experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Process, post, and balance electronic payment batches.
  • Manually process hard copy deposits to the appropriate line item, from the payer source.
  • Reconciles Deposits to Payment applications and ensures balancing before closing batches.
  • Uploads ERNs into billing system.
  • Reviews the unapplied cash report and identifies payments for posting.
  • Completes correspondence bulk review and distribution as needed.
  • Completes transactional claim status updates.
  • Sorts, divides, and scans all “non-payment” EOB’s and documents and routes to the appropriate area.
  • Performs adjustments and transfers balances as appropriate.
  • Recognizes patients’ rights and responsibilities and supports them in the performance of job duties, respects patient’s rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Shares knowledge gained with other staff members and works as a team member.
  • Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.
  • Performs special projects as directed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Knowledge of insurance plans, medical terminology, billing procedures, government regulations, and medical codes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and work independently with little supervision.
  • Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret payer contracts and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • Ability to quickly learn and execute the use of software and processes.
