Utah Housing Corporation (UHC), located in West Valley City, Utah, is seeking a full-time, experienced, and self-directed individual for the position of UHC Underwriter in our Mortgage Banking Department. We are looking for someone who excels in customer service and is ready to contribute to a mission-driven organization that supports affordable housing across the state.

The UHC Underwriter earns between $50,000-$65,000 annually, depending on education and experience. UHC offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer contributions to Utah Retirement Systems (URS) and PEHP health plans, along with monthly contributions to a health savings account (HSA). Additional benefits include dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care, group term life and accident insurance, and options for 401(k), 457, IRA, and Roth IRA plans. We also offer flexible work hours and a supportive work environment.

As a UHC Underwriter, you will work under the direction of our Mortgage Banking management team. Your primary responsibility will be to review closed loan files submitted to UHC and prepare them for purchase. You will ensure each loan meets compliance standards with UHC guidelines, tax law, and applicable federal loan programs. This role involves regular communication with lenders, homebuyers, and industry partners to answer questions and resolve any issues related to loan documentation or program requirements.

Daily tasks include verifying the accuracy of closing documents, title reports, legal documents, and mortgage insurance certificates. You will manage data entry, follow up on missing documents, and issue correction notices for loan files. Responsibilities also include updating loan information in FHA and MERS systems, maintaining digital and physical loan records, monitoring compliance deadlines, and preparing demand letters for files requiring additional documentation. You will also work directly with lenders to clarify guidelines, assist with questions about our program overlays, and recommend process improvements to better serve our partners. Maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information and assisting with general program inquiries are essential aspects of this role.

To qualify, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional coursework in lending or underwriting is preferred, as is at least two years of college or university education. A minimum of four years of full-time experience as a Senior Loan Processor or Underwriter Assistant is required. Candidates must be well-versed in mortgage processing, underwriting methods, income calculations, and compliance with FHA, VA, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, tax law, and UHC guidelines. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as familiarity with loan processing and document delivery systems, is essential. Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset are also key.

If you feel your background and experience align with this opportunity, we encourage you to apply using our mobile-friendly application. We look forward to learning more about you!
