Job Summary

The Banquet Server will set up Banquet Rooms and serve food and beverage in a friendly, courteous and professional manner according to Moody Gardens’ high standards of quality.

Position Authority

The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.

Position Guidelines

Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Set up banquet room as instructed by Banquet Captain to include linen, service ware, and glassware
  • Attend roll call meetings before events to learn function particulars, including guest and hotel expectations
  • Greet guests and respond to requests in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Serve the food and beverage in the order and to the expectations of the Banquet Captain to ensure consistency throughout the banquet
  • Promptly bus dishes as guests complete each course or meal at the end of the meal or function
  • Replenish beverages as necessary, and check with guests for overall satisfaction
  • Once banquet is complete, reset banquet room according to the Captain’s specifications to ensure the readiness of the room for the following function
  • Sell tickets for the bar drinks
  • Perform all assigned side work to include replenishing condiments and restocking banquet shelves with supplies
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products, as assigned to adhere to health standards
  • Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Hospitality experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain any government required licenses or certifications
  • CPR Certification and First Aid training preferred
  • Must obtain TABC & Food Handlers Certification prior to beginning work

Required Skills

  • Must be reliable and responsible
  • Must have a basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette
  • Must have knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware
  • Basic knowledge of English sufficient to understand inquiries from customers and communicate simple instructions
  • Ability to comprehend and apply written product labeling instructions to enable the safe application of products and processes within the hotel
  • Ability to remember, recite, and promote a variety of menu items
  • Ability to operate beverage equipment, such as a coffee maker

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to transport up to 30 pounds through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift
  • Ability to remain on feet standing and walking for entire shift
