Summary

The After School Group Leader (GL) is responsible for supervising students during after school time, including leading student enrichment activities. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with peers, teachers, and students, have a deep commitment to student achievement, hold students and self to high expectations, and uphold Navigator school culture at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Student Supervision
  • Sign students in to the afterschool program, and oversee student transition to other activities as well as pick up and dismissal
  • Perform active supervisory duties for students during activities, including play
  • Provide assistance with snack administration activities, such as recording student receipt of snack, administering snacks, and assist in cleaning of eating areas
  • Take daily and accurate attendance and snack counts
  • Planning and Implementing Student Activities
  • Plan activities/lessons in the areas of sports, games, art, and other enrichment activities
  • Supervise and assist a group of 10 to 20 students during academic support hour in areas of math and reading
  • Prepare materials ahead of program schedule and clean up after program end
  • Implement Navigator culture rules and core values and use of PBIS system
  • Read, understand and implement curriculum as provided by Navigator or after school program
  • Student Support
  • With the support of the Student Services department and teachers, assist students in areas of educational need
  • Assist students with increased academic or behavioral needs as assigned (training provided as needed)
  • Professional Expectations
  • Participate fully in all assigned staff meetings, professional developments and planning sessions
  • Prepare student activity plans as assigned
  • Participate fully in the coaching cycle (being observed, receiving real-time and post-lesson feedback, collaborate with coach on action steps, implement action steps, etc.)
  • Support the general day-to-day happenings of the school site
  • Uphold Navigator’s mission, values, and culture at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • AA or BA Degree preferred, or High School Diploma and the passing of the ParaPro exam
  • Commitment to student success and learning
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions
  • Desire to improve professionally, open to receiving coaching and feedback
  • Flexible to changing work environment; always presents with a positive attitude
  • Ability to read and write simple correspondence
  • Possesses effective communication skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
