The Domestic Import/Export Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supervising global import/export shipments to ensure compliance with customs regulations and timely delivery. This role works closely with internal partners across industrial sites, supply chain, export platforms, quality assurance, compliance groups, and external customs brokers, ocean carriers, and freight forwarders to ensure smooth operations and adherence to international trade laws.

- Ensure all necessary import/export documentation is completed, reviewed, and maintained in line with global Customs laws and regulations, and company record-keeping policies.
- Coordinate the import of purchased materials by liaising with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
- Facilitate logistical transportation for global purchasing, including road, ocean, and air shipments.
- Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure compliance with proper procedures and documentation.
- Negotiate freight rates with transportation companies and brokers as needed, on an order-by-order basis.
- Process transactions within the company ERP system and ensure information is up-to-date.
- Work with the Global Trade Compliance Manager to ensure adherence to trade compliance guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Foreign Trade Zone guidelines and global requirements.
- Liaise with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure the proper handling of regulated shipments.
- Oversee Import Security Filings (ISF) to ensure proper importation to the USA.
- Monitor and manage import/export costs, including demurrage, carrier fees, and Customs payments.
- Provide duty classification information and support to internal teams.
- Participate in flow analysis reviews to optimize import transportation expenses.
- Create and maintain necessary reporting tools for import/export activities.
- Resolve customs clearance issues in a timely manner to avoid delays.
- Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in logistics and import/export operations in a regulated industry.
- Hands-on experience with ocean freight operations, performing RFQ/RFP processes, and cost tracking.
- Experience working with global trade imports/exports, including managing freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transportation providers.
- Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of US Customs regulations, Foreign Trade Zones, agriculture regulations, EPA requirements, and import laws.
- Understanding of Import Security Filings (ISF) and their relevance to US imports.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication skills to interface effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP systems.
- Certification in DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Trade, Transportation, or related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in the chemical or agricultural chemical industry is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and compliance requirements simultaneously.
- Occasional travel may be required to visit transportation providers or attend industry events.
