Description

Job Title: Program Specialist - McKinney Vento

Position Function: The McKinney Vento Program Specialist is responsible for assisting the Hom in implementation of all aspects of the federally mandated McKinney Vento Assistance Act. This position is a classified position and reports to the Title Services Manager.

Employee Punctuality And Appearance

  • Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee¿s supervisor
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position requires the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues

Qualifications

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Appointed representative of the District Homeless Liaison allowing federal requirements to be performed on their behalf.
  • Oversee daily work of the Family Support Workers in the McKinney Vento Department.
  • Has direct support for a small group of families assigned by the District Homeless Liaison.
  • Assist with grant development, and related program reports, audits and requests for information. Including needs assessment and program evaluations.
  • Assists with development and oversight of the various program budgets.
  • Assists with development and improvement of McKinney Vento process and procedures to help maintain efficiency.
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of required forms and information dispersed to families and school staff.
  • Direct contact with school personnel about McKinney Vento related issues and determines if escalation needs to be made to the District Homeless Liaison.
  • Assists Family Support Workers with finding and connecting families to resources internally and externally.
  • Attending community resource fairs, and speaking engagements as assigned.
  • Leading program activities such as graduation parties, resource fairs, holiday distribution, tutoring and summer program if applicable.
  • Attends all required training courses assigned by the District Homeless Liaison.
  • Assists with development and implementation of training of external and internal partners.
  • Understanding and staying current on McKinney Vento laws and regulations.
  • Assists with development, tracking and maintaining focus on the department lead and lag measures as it pertains to Financial Services WIGs.
  • Coordination of monetary and non-monetary donations and finding new donors to partner with.
  • Problem solving with schools to help students and families with immediate enrollment.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly staff meetings with the McKinney Vento staff.
  • Assists with maintaining and improving McKinney Vento information on the district website.
  • Connecting students to additional educational opportunities either internal or external.

Qualification Profile

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Managerial experience preferred but not required.
