The insurance verification specialist is a subject matter expert on dental insurance plans and benefits; responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage to ensure necessary procedures are covered by an individual’s insurance plan.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working with insurance companies and extensive knowledge of different types of coverage and policies
  • Computer, telephone, internet, Virtual fax machine

Preferred

  • Associate Degree or Higher
  • Open Dental knowledge, Dental insurance verification experience

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve insurance breakdown information prior to patient appointments.
  • Ensure accurate data entry into Open Dental of the insurance plan information.
  • Review existing insurance plans in Open Dental to combine and ensure accuracy of existing dental plans. Correct any errors as necessary.
  • Update patient benefit information in the organization’s insurance system and verify that existing information is accurate to ensure the patient receives a correct estimate of insurance payments for the treatment being presented.
  • Coordinate with the practice, the third party vendor and the RCM team.
  • Work with assigned practice teams to ensure an exceptional patient experience.
  • Various other duties as requested by the supervisor.
