Summary Of Position
The Human Resources Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all HR functions, aligning personnel practices with the mission, values, and goals. The Director is responsible for fostering an inclusive, trauma-informed, and performance-driven workplace, while ensuring compliance with employment laws and industry best practices.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director and senior leadership team on workforce strategy, culture, and organizational development.
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support New Hope Housing’s mission and strategic plan.
- Promote a trauma-informed and equity-centered workplace culture.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Oversee performance management systems, including goal setting, coaching, evaluations, and professional development plans.
- Design and support employee engagement and retention strategies, including stay interviews and climate surveys.
- Provide guidance and support on complex personnel issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and restorative practices.
- Maintain consistent and equitable application of HR policies across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, etc.).
- Oversee HR documentation, personnel files, and confidential employee records in accordance with legal standards.
- Lead workplace investigations and liaise with legal counsel when necessary.
- Manage employee benefits programs, open enrollment, and liaise with brokers and providers.
- Collaborate with finance to evaluate compensation structures and recommend adjustments to maintain internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Develop and implement training programs that support professional growth, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed care principles.
- Facilitate leadership development and coaching for people managers and emerging leaders.
- Supervise HR team members and provide mentorship and support.
- Manage HR consultants and external partners as needed.
This position requires the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or similar certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or human services environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed and equity-centered HR practices.
- Strong understanding of employment law, HR systems, and workforce compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the mission of New Hope Housing and a passion for creating supportive and sustainable work environments.
