Job Title: Process Engineer

Travel: Expect 30-50% travel to ColorCoat locations and customer sites
Position Objective
The New Process Engineer will drive innovation in production processes, with a focus on onboarding new business, integrating advanced painting and laminating technologies, and working with new materials and substrates. This role combines value stream optimization, process integration, and customer engagement to expand ColorCoat’s capabilities and support strategic growth initiatives. The individual will play a pivotal role in exploring new substrates and ensuring their seamless introduction into operations while meeting customer needs and maintaining high-quality standards.

The individual will play a pivotal role in exploring new substrates and ensuring their seamless introduction into operations while meeting customer needs and maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Value Stream Oversight & Process Optimization
- Oversee production processes for new and existing products, ensuring efficiency and minimal waste across all operations.
- Conduct value stream mapping to identify opportunities for improvement and streamline workflows.
- Drive key performance indicators (KPIs), including improved yield, reduced cycle times, and cost savings for new products.
- Lead the evaluation, testing, and implementation of processes for new substrates and coatings, including painting and laminating.
- Prepare cost models for labor utilization and paint consumption on new products.
- Partner with the Leadership team to design integration plans for new materials and ensure scalability for full production.
- Develop and execute Change Point Management Plans to address challenges related to new business and substrates.
- Collaborate with vendors to optimize coatings, adhesives, and laminates for new materials.
- Work closely with sales and operations to support the onboarding of new customers and products, ensuring their unique needs are met.
- Partner with customers to identify opportunities for using ColorCoat’s capabilities on new materials, fostering long-term relationships.
- Provide technical guidance to customers on process improvements, product customization, and new material applications.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to expand ColorCoat’s capabilities to paint or laminate on previously unused substrates.
- Lead initiatives to introduce new technologies and techniques into the production environment.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to coatings (including solvent-based, water-based, UV, powder, and specialty finishes), adhesives, and laminates to maintain ColorCoat’s competitive edge.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, including the CEO, Director of Operations, , and Plant Managers, to align production strategies with company growth goals.
- Serve as a bridge between technical teams and customers, ensuring clear communication of complex technical processes and updates.
- Support the development of pricing strategies for new products and substrates in collaboration with sales and finance teams.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field is preferred. Certifications in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in process optimization, production engineering, or customer-facing technical roles within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience working with painting, and other coating technologies across a wide range of substrates.
- Strong understanding of the PPAP process, including customer documentation and validation.
- Expertise in onboarding new business and integrating new production processes into existing operations.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with a focus on innovation and adaptability.
- Highly proficient in MS Office and Excel; familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and customers.
- Willingness to travel 30-50%% of the time.
