Position Overview:
The Security Officer supports the museum experience by maintaining the safety and security of the facility. Duties include surveillance of premises to provide protection for visitors and staff members. Monitoring of preschool and toddler drop-off/pick-up. Inspecting surveillance equipment. Collaborating with manager to ensure the well-being of the museum, staff, and visitors.
The position requires schedule flexibility and a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, including a minimum of one (1) weekend day and occasional holidays and evenings as assigned by management.

Position Responsibilities
- Must be able to stand for long periods and maintain a heightened sense of vigilance
- Receive and record all deliveries
- Respond to code calls from staff
- Respond to all emergencies
- Post assignments – responsible for maintaining various posts throughout the facility's interior and exterior. The entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and vehicles according to protocols
- Perform parking lot traffic control duties
- Periodically work special evening and daytime events
- Sign-in business guests into the facility
- Perform interior and exterior foot patrols using a guard tour recording system (during inclement non-hazardous weather events.)
- Controlling the arrival and departure of preschool and toddler students according to protocols.
- Testing security systems, access systems, local door alarms, and communication checks.
Minimum Experience/Skills/Certificates:
- High School diploma required
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Sensitive to diversity including individuals with physical challenges or special needs
- Consistently uses good judgment in the presence of museum visitors and staff
- Bilingual is a plus
- CPR/AED First Aid certification (provided by museum).
- At least two years of work experience
- State of Connecticut Security Officer License/Registration
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- High level of observation skills to report anything out of the ordinary
- Proficient in writing reports
- Work at least one weekend day and holidays as needed
