Position Summary
Learns to assign disease and procedural codes and abstract information for ambulatory surgery, emergency department and other ambulatory episodes of care, using encoder/grouper, code books and other related hospital systems. Learns to maintain required records and logs. Learns to interact with physicians on coding issues. This position is for a minimum of one semester with a maximum of two semesters. Semesters are defined by Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC). This position may lead to progression to position of Coder I, Medical Records.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
High School graduate or equivalent Current Student at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC) and active HIT Associate Degree candidate. Completion of WGTC’s HIMT 1400 Class Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology Ability to use computers efficiently Good communication skills essential
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
May spend long hours working at a computer terminal. Must be able to see and read names, numbers and colors. Subject to high stress levels.
