Position Summary: This role performs routine microbiological laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished product samples in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and test methods. Performs microbiological analyses using prescribed aseptic techniques, follows good documentation practices, (GDP), good laboratory practices (GLP) and current good manufacturing processes (cGMP).

Responsibilities

  • Performs microbiological testing of raw materials, finished products, and stability samples.
  • Enters data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Maintains sample logs to ensure timely testing and tracking of samples.
  • Prepares agar plates and operates autoclave.
  • Performs plating, staining, and streaking.
  • Forecasts need for microbiological media and prepares new media accordingly.
  • Monitors and reports low inventory of supplies and consumables.
  • Collects and performs analysis of environmental monitoring samples.
  • Relies on instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot routine analysis problems.
  • Is committed to impartiality and confidentiality in all aspects of laboratory activities, informs management when risks to impartiality and confidentiality are identified and supports taking steps immediately to minimize such risks.
  • Supports maintaining the integrity of the management system as described in ISO 17025 when changes to the management system are planned and implemented.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing maintenance on instrumentation and equipment in the Microbiology Laboratory.
  • Initiates and documents Microbiology Laboratory investigations.
  • Supports in the execution of method validation, troubleshooting, IQ/OQ protocols.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot instrumentation.
  • Maintains a teamwork mindset and takes initiative to find and make improvements.
  • Acts as Shift Lead, as designated by management.
  • Participates in training new employees as designated by management.

What You Need

  • Minimum BS/BA in Biology or science-related field required. Microbiology degree preferred.
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of basic microbiological techniques and methodologies.
  • Previous experience in GMP Microbiology Lab preferred.
  • Ability to can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including metric measurement, using whole numbers and decimals, apply algebraic expressions to determine concentrations, dilutions and calculate results.
