Summary;
The Rigger Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating a crew of riggers in the safe execution of lifting, hoisting, and moving operations on a construction or industrial site. This role ensures that all rigging tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards, lift plans, and company procedures. The Rigger Foreman serves as the crew’s front-line leader, working closely with equipment operators, safety personnel, and site supervisors to complete lifts on schedule and without incident.
Responsibilities
The Rigger Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating a crew of riggers in the safe execution of lifting, hoisting, and moving operations on a construction or industrial site. This role ensures that all rigging tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards, lift plans, and company procedures. The Rigger Foreman serves as the crew’s front-line leader, working closely with equipment operators, safety personnel, and site supervisors to complete lifts on schedule and without incident.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily activities of rigging crews, ensuring safe and efficient execution of lifts and moves.
- Interpret rigging plans, blueprints, and load charts to determine equipment and rigging requirements.
- Ensure proper setup, inspection, and use of rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, spreader bars, and hoists.
- Coordinate with crane operators, signal persons, and other trades to execute critical lifts safely.
- Conduct daily pre-task briefings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks with the crew.
- Monitor crew performance and adherence to company safety protocols and site-specific regulations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of complex or critical lifts with the Rigging Superintendent.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of rigging operations, inspections, and incident reports.
- Train and mentor junior riggers to ensure a skilled and safety-conscious team.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of rigging experience, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or foreman role.
- Experience in industrial, heavy civil, marine, or plant maintenance environments preferred.
- NCCCO Rigger Level I or II, or equivalent rigging certification required.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification preferred.
- Signal Person certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of rigging principles, weight calculations, load handling, and lifting gear.
- Ability to read and interpret rigging plans, load charts, and technical drawings.
- Leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and mentor crews effectively.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Physically capable of working in demanding environments, including lifting, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to compliance.
- Ability to reach, stand, walk, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions.
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- Ability to reach with hands or arms, stand, walk, use hands or fingers, grip, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and to perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.
- The ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
