People Generalist

Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, the People Generalist at Gastamo Group plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of our People & Culture function. This position is responsible for executing core HR functions including management-level recruiting, onboarding, HR administration, employee relations, benefits coordination, compliance, and workplace safety tracking. The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish/English), highly organized, and passionate about creating exceptional team member experiences that reflect Gastamo’s values and mission: to make everyone feel special through great food, unique environments, and exceptional hospitality. This role includes occasional time spent in our restaurant locations to foster understanding of team dynamics, culture, and operational needs—ensuring that People & Culture strategies remain grounded, empathetic, and aligned with the realities of our teams.

Talent Acquisition:

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for salaried restaurant leadership positions.
  • Collaborate with the VP of People & Culture and Operations leaders to understand hiring needs.
  • Manage job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and reference checks.
  • Prepare offer letters, initiate background checks, and coordinate new hire communications.
  • Maintain and manage the applicant tracking system.

Onboarding and Orientation

  • Coordinate onboarding logistics including system setup, event packet distribution, and I-9 verification.
  • Send welcome communications and align start dates and onboarding schedules with DOs.
  • Ensure seamless integration for new hires with timely and accurate onboarding execution.

HR Administration and Compliance

  • Maintain and audit employee records and documentation for compliance with federal and state laws, including I-9s, personnel files, and government postings.
  • Manage and ensure data integrity across HR platforms (e.g., Paylocity, Checkr, ATS) to support workflows, recordkeeping, and privacy standards.
  • Support the creation, implementation, and ongoing review of HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks—including regular updates to the Team Member Handbook and Management Procedures Manual.
  • Coordinate policy audits and maintain the Compliance Scorecard to ensure legal and procedural alignment.
  • Administer employment status changes including promotions, transfers, and separations; prepare related documentation.
  • Oversee unemployment claims, garnishments, and related legal documentation, ensuring timely and accurate handling.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to support payroll-related compliance (e.g., W-2 audits, payroll tax reconciliation) and confirm alignment between HR data and financial systems.
  • Ensure timely updates and distribution of required postings from federal and state agencies; maintain internal database for poster audits.

Employee Relations Support

  • Assist with documentation and coordination of performance management, write-ups, and investigations.
  • Track anniversaries, terminations, and exit interview summaries.
  • Provide timely, confidential support to managers and team members regarding HR concerns

Safety, Workers’ Compensation & Leave Tracking

  • Track workplace incidents and ensure workers’ compensation documentation and follow-up.
  • Support OSHA reporting when necessary and light-duty return-to-work coordination.
  • Maintain safety-related records and serve as liaison with insurance providers for claims and follow-ups.

Education, Experience, And Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or Psychology preferred
  • PHR or SPHR certification a plus.
  • 3+ years of HR Generalist experience required.
  • Previous experience in restaurant management or hospitality operations strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with all levels of staff and leadership.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state labor laws, OSHA, and workplace compliance practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems (e.g., Paylocity).
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and present confidently in front of groups.
