Neurona Therapeutics Internship (6-12 months)

Neurona Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in South San Francisco focused on the development of neuronal cell-based therapies for neurological diseases. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated graduate-level student who has a passion for scientific research. As an intern, you will participate in cutting edge molecular biology and stem cell biology research to support biomarker discovery, deep characterization of cell therapy candidates, and novel product development.

Responsibilities Include

• Perform cell culture experiments using directed neuronal differentiation from human PSCs
• Use the latest molecular biology tools to label, track and characterize neuronal populations
• Conduct fluorescence and/or magnetic -activated cell sorting experiments
• Perform tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry and microscopy experiments
• Design, plan and execute experiments using single cell RNA sequencing pipeline
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from discovery and preclinical departments
• Organize and maintain detailed experimental records in accordance with industry standards
• Analyze data, interpret and present results at team meetings
  
  

Required Qualifications

• MS/PhD (or working towards PhD) in Molecular/Cell Biology, Neuroscience or related field
• Experience with sterile mammalian cell culture, human stem cell and neuronal cell culture
• Gene delivery, including viral transduction with LV/AAV
• Familiarity with histochemical techniques and microscopy
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills, superb attention to detail
• Willingness to learn, expand skill set and contribute to a highly dynamic start-up environment
• Ability to multitask while working within fast-paced timelines
• High integrity, excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong team player and problem-solver, able to work on teams and independently
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 2-4 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience in academia or industry
• Knowledge of stem cell biology and neurodevelopmental biology
• Prior experience with directed differentiation towards neuronal cell types
• Experience with fluorescence activated and/or magnetic cell sorting (FACS/MACS)
• Experience with NGS library preparation from single cells
