Job Overview

South West Pump & Drilling Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Machinist to support the precision repair and fabrication of components for water well drilling and pump systems. In this role, you will operate a variety of manual machine tools to modify or manufacture pump parts, assist with repair projects, operate an engine lathe & vertical mill, and ensure that all machined components meet critical performance standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in keeping vital equipment in top condition and supporting field teams with rapid, high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines (engine lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) to fabricate or repair pump and well components.
• Inspect and measure finished parts for conformance to specifications using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Machine precision shafts, sleeves, bushings, impellers, and other pump-related hardware.
• Collaborate with field teams to provide custom repairs and support urgent project needs.
• Maintain and service machine tools to ensure reliability and precision
• Weld and use cutting torches as needed for part preparation or fabrication.
• Maintain accurate documentation for all machining jobs and material usage.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements in the shop.
  
  

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a machine shop or precision machining environment.
• High mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working on industrial pumps or rotating equipment preferred.
• Experience with welding and torch cutting is preferred.
• Strong math skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to deadlift 80-100 lbs throughout the shift.
• Dependable, punctual, and committed to producing high-quality work.
• Excellent physical health and ability to meet the demands of a machine shop environment.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
• CDL Class A or B license is preferred.
