We are seeking an experienced Pre-Production Label Manager to lead our label coordinator and graphic teams, ensuring the seamless processing of new, revised, and repeat label orders. This position ensures that all labels meet regulatory standards, brand guidelines, and customer specifications, thereby facilitating a smooth transition from design to manufacturing. This hands-on leadership role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and a comprehensive understanding of graphic design and printing processes. By maintaining high-quality standards and attention to detail, the Pre-Production Label Manager contributes significantly to the overall success of product launches.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of label specifications, creation of bills of materials and routings, creation of work orders, and the maintenance of label costs.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications to process incoming label orders, consult with related departments and customers to resolve open issues and drive continuous improvement efforts across both departments.
  • Manage workflow graphics and the label coordinating team. Implement time management metrics and reporting of projects, work orders, etc.
  • Order new rotary dies and plate cylinders when required for new label designs.
  • Collaborate with various departments and customers on various artwork issues and collectively establish resolutions for executing jobs accurately and on time. 
  • Establish and streamline procedures for archiving files in the prepress department. 
  • Establish and maintain written procedures for graphics and label coordinator processes with a focus on efficiency and data tracking and reporting. Provide guidance to the team on workflow process, standard operating procedures, quality and work organization. 
  • Maintain department budget and expenses.
  • Participate in Kaizen events to foster a culture of change.
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, develop, discipline and foster a team environment. Crosstrain and utilize resources to manage workflow. 
  • Work with marketing, customer service, pricing and marketing on various projects.
  • Consult with IT staff on process improvements opportunities for the pre-production process.


Skills & Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma required. Technical or bachelor’s degree preferred in prepress operations, graphic design, or printing prepress technology or a minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training or combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to identify current processes, drive process improvements, and implement change.
  • 5-7 years of management experience.
  • Change management skills a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Understanding of various printing processes.
  • Knowledge of technical drawings a plus.
  • General understanding of graphics software to assist with department workflow. Esko and Adobe Creative Suite software knowledge a plus.
