KENTECH Consulting Inc. is seeking a California POST-certified investigator to conduct comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement candidates. This role requires strict compliance with California POST Commission Regulations 1953-1955, as well as agency-specific policies, ensuring the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct In-Depth Background Investigations – Perform detailed pre-employment background investigations for both sworn and non-sworn law enforcement candidates.
Interview & Verification – Conduct thorough interviews with applicants, references, employers, neighbors, and other relevant contacts to verify personal, professional, and criminal history.
Records Collection & Analysis – Review and assess criminal history, credit reports, employment records, military service, and educational credentials.
Compliance & Legal Standards – Ensure investigations follow the California POST Background Investigation Manual and comply with EEO, ADA, FCRA, and agency-specific regulations.
Detailed Report Writing – Prepare comprehensive, objective, and well-documented investigative reports summarizing findings.
Client Communication – Provide hiring authorities with timely updates, insights, and recommendations throughout the investigation process.
Confidentiality & Ethics – Handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion, ethical responsibility, and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
California POST Background Investigator Certificate located within 20 miles of SACRAMENTO CA (Required)
1-3 years of experience conducting law enforcement background investigations (Required)
Strong knowledge of California laws, POST regulations, and investigative best practices
Expertise in interviewing, data analysis, and report writing
Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Law Enforcement Experience – Sworn or non-sworn investigator background preferred
Experience Handling Complex Cases – High-risk or specialized background investigations
Bilingual Proficiency – Spanish Or Other Languages Preferred
Work Environment
Hybrid or On-Site – Based on agency policy
Travel Requirements – May require travel for in-person interviews and field investigations
Confidentiality & Security – Regular exposure to sensitive information
