SelectLeaders is seeking a senior, entrepreneurial construction leader to serve as SVP of Construction and Responsible Managing Officer (RMO). This person will run the business with an ownership mentality—ensuring excellence on current projects, setting up operational systems, and leading future growth. The first immediate priority: deliver Phases 2–5 of Hillcrest Residences, a 144-home community in Santa Cruz, CA. Simultaneously, you'll play a strategic role in the early execution of our 136-acre master-planned community in Houston, TX.

You’ll lead from a high level but with deep involvement, supported by strong on-site supervisors and consultants. With offices in Phoenix, AZ, you’ll also collaborate closely with our Corporate staff and help scale a new construction operation that’s efficient, adaptive, and built to last.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Responsible Managing Officer (RMO) and Designated Qualifying Individual for California (Designate CA) with an active Class B General Contractor license
  • Lead all aspects of construction management, including operations, team building, and process development
  • Oversee active construction at Hillcrest Residences (Santa Cruz)
  • Manage development projects through the infrastructure approval phase, working with newly formed MUDs and coordinating bids for infrastructure work
  • Set up scalable systems, tools, and personnel for long-term construction company success
  • Evaluate and hire key staff, including a future Chief Estimator
  • Provide leadership that fosters ownership, accountability, and cross-team collaboration
  • Coordinate with development leads, city officials, permitting agencies, and trade partners
  • Ensure contract quality, cost control, and scheduling using tools like Procore, Northspyre, MS Project, Built, Textura, Smooth and Microsoft Suite

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in construction leadership, ideally with experience in residential for-sale, multifamily or mixed-use development
  • Active Class B General Contractor License (must be eligible to serve as RMO)
  • Proven ability to hire, fire, manage, and mentor diverse project and field teams
  • Demonstrated success operating across multiple markets with varying regulatory and geographic challenges
  • Highly adaptable with a proactive, “get-it-done” leadership style
  • Experience managing both horizontal and vertical scopes
  • Fluent in construction management systems (Procore, Northspyre, Microsoft Suite)
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and contract management skills
  • Comfortable operating remotely but highly accountable to a lean, capable team

Why this role is unique

  • Build a business, not just a project—take the reins of a construction firm with a strong foundation and ambitious growth goals
  • Project diversity and scale—from Santa Cruz to Houston, you’ll touch projects that shape communities and portfolios
  • Autonomy with alignment—you’ll lead independently but remain closely connected to a team of proven developers and operators
  • Immediate and long-term impact—deliver today’s homes while designing tomorrow’s construction company
