We are actively recruiting for the role of Junior Environmental Planner to join our growing family of professional consultants. This is a full-time position based in our Lexington, Kentucky office working alongside a Senior Environmental Planner to support the Environmental Planning process, learning all the nuances and facets of environmental planning and project management including contributing to NEPA documents, preparing environmental studies, analyzing environmental data, and assisting in natural resource management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with proposal development and project scoping
  • Learning project management solutions by supporting and contributing to active projects
  • Assigning and coordinating tasks for team members
  • Attending and participating in client coordination calls
  • Participating in and contributing to NEPA projects (e.g., EAs, EISs)
  • Assisting with and preparing environmental studies
  • Analyzing environmental data and public comments
  • Assisting in natural resource management activities
  • Assisting clients with environmental permitted needs
  • Attending project meetings and public open houses
  • Coordinating staff capacity and project schedules

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, geography, natural resource management, or similar field
  • NEPA experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interest in federal lands management and policy
  • Knowledge of federal agencies (e.g., BLM, NPS, TVA, USACE, USFS, USFWS), their regulations, and the resources they manage.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations (e.g., CAA, CWA, ESA, NHPA, RCRA) governing the work
  • Fundamental knowledge of or experience with contributing to NEPA documents, preparing environmental studies, analyzing environmental data, and assisting in natural resource management activities
  • Experience interacting with clients and providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to help identify and determine permitting needs including state environmental reviews, site characterization studies, and agency coordination
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills including oral and written as well as critical listening
  • Must be comfortable in a variety of professional settings including team, business meetings and client meetings
  • Must be able to successfully function as a part of team projects and also have initiative for self-directed work
