Director of Human Resources

Locations: Hybrid Role in the Bellevue or greater Seattle area to support 100 employees in Washington, Oregon & California

Reports To: CEO

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt Full-Time

Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources will lead the strategic and operational HR function across a multi-state environmental remediation company. Supporting scientists, geologists, hydrologists, and field crews, this role will oversee all areas of HR—including workforce planning, compliance, employee relations, culture, and leadership development. The Director will serve as a key advisor to the executive team, while ensuring HR programs align with business goals and comply with complex regulations in Washington, Oregon, and California. Oversees one HR Generalist.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic HR Leadership
  • Define and execute long-term HR strategy aligned with company goals
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on workforce trends, labor relations, and organizational design
  • Accountable for all aspects of HR compliance, including multi-state regulations and risk mitigation
  • Organizational Development & Talent Management
  • Lead succession planning and career development strategies across field and professional teams
  • Design/Lead performance management systems that support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Employee Relations & Culture
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment
  • Oversee investigations and ensure timely, consistent resolution of concerns
  • Model leadership values and promote employee engagement at all levels
  • Total Rewards & Workforce Planning
  • Oversee compensation and benefits strategy, including alignment with industry standards
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, leave programs (CA PFL/CFRA, WA PFML, OR PFML), and benefit regulations
  • Accountable for HR Systems & Analytics
  • Analyze workforce data to inform decision-making and executive reporting
  • Mentor HR staff and equip leaders for performance and career development discussions
  • HR Systems & Metrics
  • Oversees Benefit administration
  • Additional duties requested from time to time.

Education

BA or BS in HR applicable field. Graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience working with field-based teams and environmental or technical workforces
  • Deep understanding of multi-state labor law compliance (WA, OR, CA)
  • Leadership Competencies
  • Strong executive presence with a collaborative, solution-oriented leadership style
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism
  • Strong knowledge of MS suite, including SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Physical Qualifications

  • Able to work 40 hours per week dedicated to this position during core business hours.
  • While working, this position is required to see and speak on the phone and/or virtual meetings, sit and/or

stand for lengthy periods of time.

  • The manual dexterity and range of motion with arms, hands and fingers to support the use of a computer and phone

for long periods of time.

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel or crouch and talk or hear.
