America’s Car-Mart is looking for a senior finance executive responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within the organization. The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements including SEC and SOX, and supports strategic financial planning and operational efficiency. This role involves close collaboration with the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), executive leadership, and cross-functional teams across both the auto sales and finance divisions.

General Summary – Vice President, Controller
America’s Car-Mart is looking for a senior finance executive responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within the organization. The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements including SEC and SOX, and supports strategic financial planning and operational efficiency. This role involves close collaboration with the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), executive leadership, and cross-functional teams across both the auto sales and finance divisions.
Essential Functions
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX, and industry-specific regulations (eg CFPB, FDIC)
- Coordinate with external auditors and participate in annual audit process
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across business
- Oversee accounting for vehicle inventory, loan portfolios, securitizations, and reserves
- Manage general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
- Drive automation and integration of accounting systems across dealership and finance platforms
- Evaluate and enhance ERP and financial reporting systems
- Strengthen internal controls and streamline accounting workflows
- Build and mentor a high-performing account ting team
- Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and Compliance to support strategic initiatives
- Provide financial insights to executive leadership and support M&A activity
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (MBA preferred).
- CPA required
- Minimum 10 years of accounting experience including public accounting and SEC reporting experience.
- Experience with publicly traded company, consumer finance, or regulated industries preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the proven ability to present and explain complex information to diverse audiences including senior leadership
